Museum of Graffiti has partnered with Miami’s original streetwear brand D.A.D.E. to design a fashion collection that incorporates the art of 3 of Miami’s heavy hitting street painters.
The collection features new designs by Disem, Reds, and Siner who are all veteran graffiti artists who call Miami home. Each piece will be inspired by the artists’ relationship to the city such as Disem’s alligator or Siner’s rendition of graphics usually found on a placemat from a Cuban diner.
The collection was released at the unveiling of an entire immersive exhibition on DADE, which is Miami’s original streetwear and lifestyle brand that authentically celebrates the city’s urban art and culture. The brand began in the mid-90’s as a group of pioneering young creatives growing up on South Beach who would skate, party, make music, and of course paint graffiti. Officially founded by artist and visionary Rob Pellegrino, the early goal was to create a record label and promotion company for young talent coming out of Miami. While the original business concept failed, the iconic D.A.D.E. logo lived on through friends and artists who had been gifted promotional tees along with stickers surviving for years on street signs or bathroom stall doors. With no other apparel or lifestyle brand specifically representing pride in Miami’s important role in a growing global urban art and culture scene, demand for the tees soared and D.A.D.E. officially rebranded as Miami’s premier streetwear brand in 2005. With former shops in Downtown and Wynwood, D.A.D.E.’s flagship store is currently in Little Havana where founder Pellegrino designs D.A.D.E.’s latest creations and specializes in custom screen printing and embroidery for Miami’s young artists and local businesses looking to create apparel and accessories of their own.
