Wynwood is about to get even more colorful. Museum of Graffiti has revealed a massive new mural that celebrates two centennial milestones: 100 years of University of Miami Football and 100 years of Modelo.
This one-of-a-kind artwork is strategically placed at one of Miami’s busiest gateways, visible from I-95N, and will be unveiled just in time for the Hurricanes’ season-opening game against Notre Dame. For anyone driving into the city, the mural will serve as a bold reminder of Miami’s cultural heartbeat—where sports, art, and community collide.
A Story of Fans Through the Decades
The mural isn’t just about football victories; it’s about the fans who made those moments unforgettable. Designed and painted by a crew of top local aerosol artists with deep Miami roots, the artwork takes viewers on a historical journey through Hurricanes fandom.
From the vintage supporter of 1983—the year UM won its first National Championship—to the unforgettable undefeated 2001 season, each fan is brought to life with era-specific details: the hairstyles, the fashion, and the distinct photographic hues that marked each generation.
Murals as Miami’s Cultural Language
“Murals are how our community expresses joy and cultural ownership over these milestones,” says Allison Freidin, co-founder of the Museum of Graffiti and a proud double alumna of the University of Miami. “Wynwood is the cultural epicenter of Miami where street artists use the walls to mourn the fallen, challenge the status quo, and in this instance—celebrate.”
Modelo Meets the Hurricanes
None of this would be possible without Modelo, the official import beer of both the Miami Hurricanes and the Museum of Graffiti. Just like Hurricanes fans, Modelo represents passion, perseverance, and heritage—making the pairing a natural fit.
The result? A mural that radiates energy with bold typography, iconic symbols, and explosive color, perfectly capturing the rhythm of the city. It’s more than just paint on a wall—it’s a love letter to Miami, football, and the bond between beer and sports that unites generations.
