Shirt King Phade

About the Artist

Shirt King Phade (Edwin "Phade" Sacasa) is a pioneering New York graffiti artist who helped transform graffiti into wearable art during the early days of hip-hop. After moving from painting subway trains to customizing airbrushed T-shirts, Phade and the Shirt Kings became among the first artists to commercialize graffiti, laying the foundation for what many consider modern streetwear. Known for his bold, hand-painted designs that remixed pop culture icons with hip-hop style, the Shirt Kings' custom apparel became a cultural phenomenon. His iconic Queens storefront attracted hip-hop legends including Jay-Z, Jam Master Jay, and RZA, helping shape some of the era's most recognizable imagery.
