Doze Green is a pioneer who helped shape the language of contemporary art, from the streets of New York City to galleries and museums around the world. Emerging in the late 1970s as a B-boy with the legendary Rock Steady Crew, he carried the raw energy of hip-hop into both graffiti and fine art. As a member of the TC5 crew, he painted subway cars and became a master style writer, laying the foundation for a career defined by rhythm, movement, and invention.
Doze Green: Drawings is the first book devoted to the artist’s sketches, black book pages, and works on paper. These drawings—most never before published—capture his signature B-boy figures alongside mythological beings and fractured forms. They reveal Doze’s lifelong exploration of energy, time, and consciousness, where illustrated figures hint at realms beyond our own and shifting planes suggest infinite possibilities.
Blending influences from Cubism, calligraphy, Edo-period painting, and graffiti, Doze’s drawings are alive with motion and intuition. They are part archive, part meditation—offering a rare window into the mind of one of hip-hop’s most visionary artists.
Featuring over 150 images, text by Doze Green and Alan Ket, and photography by the legendary Martha Cooper, this volume celebrates the power of drawing as the foundation of Doze’s art and the spark behind his timeless imagery.
