Roberto Gualtieri, known as COCO144, is an artist and pioneer among the first generation of New York City subway writers. His tag was inspired by his childhood nickname and the street in Harlem where he grew up, 144th Street. In November 1972, COCO144 was one of the founding members of United Graffiti Artists, a collective of artists who revolutionized the writing movement and changed the public's perception of urban art by transitioning from spray painting on subway trains to painting on canvas.

UGA members were the first subway writers to have a gallery exhibition with an inaugural show in 1973 at the Razor Gallery in Soho, New York City.
COCO144 utilizes aerosol paint, acrylics, and inks to compose abstract works, often utilizing elements of his tag, in a myriad of fluid and angular shapes, lines, colors, and symbols, all culminating into powerful reflections of his identity. His work has been exhibited at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, the Museum of the City of New York, Artists Space in NYC, the Ninth Biennial in Havana, Cuba, the Cartier Foundation in Paris, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver, Colorado.
COCO144 currently lives and paints in New York City.
